Miami Maternity Photography in a Field | A Sunset Session with a Growing Family

If you’re searching for Miami maternity photography in a natural field setting, this session is exactly why I always say: trust the process… even when the weather completely throws us off.

Because yes—this session almost didn’t happen the way we planned.

When a Miami Cold Front Changes Everything

Living in Miami, you don’t exactly expect to reschedule a session because of cold weather… but here we are.

An unexpected cold front rolled in, and we had to push this maternity session back. And if you’ve ever been pregnant (or worked with pregnant mamas), you know this adds a tiny bit of pressure… because maternity photos are truly a time-sensitive window.

I’ll be honest—every time I have to reschedule a maternity session, it gives me a little anxiety.

We’re working against the clock.

The “Perfect Timing” for Maternity Photos (and When Life Says Otherwise)

I always recommend scheduling maternity sessions between 28–32 weeks.

Why?

  • You have that beautiful, round, defined bump
  • Energy levels are usually still pretty good
  • Swelling typically hasn’t kicked in yet

Once you pass that 35-week mark, things can start to feel a little more uncomfortable—swelling, soreness, all the things your body is doing to prepare for baby.

But sometimes… life doesn’t follow the timeline.

And this mama? She showed UP at 36 weeks pregnant looking absolutely incredible.

No swelling. Feeling good. Glowing in every sense of the word.

Truly the best-case scenario when we had to pivot.

A Field Maternity Session in Miami at Sunset

We chose a beautiful open field here in Miami to create that soft, dreamy, organic look that so many moms love.

There’s something about a field at sunset that just hits differently:

  • The tall grass moving with the breeze
  • That golden, glowy light wrapping around the belly
  • The simplicity that keeps the focus on connection

It’s timeless, emotional, and honestly… one of my favorite types of maternity sessions to photograph.

Letting Toddlers Lead (Because They Always Do )

If you’re a mom reading this, you already know:

Toddlers are the boss.

And honestly? I lean into that every single time.

We started the session with the full family together in their first outfit and let their little one take the lead. That’s where the magic happens—the giggles, the movement, the real moments you actually want to remember.

Then after a quick outfit change…

Dad and toddler got a well-deserved break (because yes, they earned it), and we shifted the focus.

The Magic of Solo Maternity Portraits

This is always the part of the session I gently carve out time for—because it matters.

Just mama.

Just her body.

Just this moment before everything changes.

And these?

They’re almost always the images moms treasure the most.

The quiet ones. The powerful ones. The ones where you can see the strength, the anticipation, the love before baby arrives.

And for this session… they were everything.

Creating Beautiful Memories—No Matter the Circumstances

This mama wanted one thing:

beautiful photos to remember her baby girl’s pregnancy.

And despite the reschedule, the timing stress, and all the unknowns—we made it happen.

We documented her growing family.

We captured her connection with her toddler.

And we froze this chapter before it turned into the next.

And that’s what maternity photography is really about.

Not perfection.

Not perfect timing.

But preserving this fleeting, emotional, powerful season of life.
