Capturing every milestone
Your baby’s first year is filled with the most beautiful, fleeting moments — and each stage brings something completely new. But there’s something especially sweet about six months. Right in the middle of that first year, your baby is no longer a sleepy newborn, yet not quite on the move. They’re sitting up, giggling, and beginning to show you exactly who they are. And the hardest part? It all happens so fast. The question I get most often is "what if my baby isn't sitting yet" or "does my baby have to sit?". The truth is- it depends! Do you want to capture your baby at 6 months or do you want to capture the sitting milestone? Because those don't always end up being the same thing. Some babies are sitting at 6 months, but some babies don't sit independently until 7 or 8 months. Both are okay! But one is a 6 month session, and the other is a milestone session. The same thing goes for first birthday photos- do you want to capture them as they are when they turn one? Or do you want to capture the standing or walking milestone.
So my question for you is easy, but somehow controversial. Are you team 6 month photos or are you team sitting milestone photos?
Seeing it differently as a mom
There’s something about this stage of life that feels even more meaningful when you’ve experienced it yourself.
As a mom to a three-year-old and a one-year-old, I’ve come to realize just how quickly these moments pass. With my first, I was soaking it all in for the first time — every milestone felt big, exciting, unforgettable. And then with my second, everything felt a little faster, a little more emotional… because I knew just how quickly this season would be over.
You blink, and they’re no longer the tiny baby you brought home.
The sweetness of six months
At six months, there’s this quiet kind of magic. They’re learning to sit, finding their balance, and starting to really interact with the world around them. They look at you with so much curiosity, like they’re trying to understand everything — and you are still their whole world. It’s a stage full of softness. Full cheeks, tiny fingers, and those genuine little smiles that come so easily. It may not feel like a “big” milestone compared to first steps or first birthdays, but it’s one of the most beautiful in-between phases — the one where their personality really begins to shine.
Holding on to this sweet stage
Just like that, this sweet six-month stage becomes a memory. This session was filled with so much personality — from the tiniest smiles to the way he sat so proudly, taking it all in. His donut-themed setup and little “1/2” hat added such a fun touch to celebrate this milestone, but what made it truly special were the in-between expressions… the ones that can’t be planned. These are the moments that simply happen when your baby feels safe, loved, and completely themselves. At the end of the day, it’s not just about marking a milestone — it’s about holding onto who they are in this exact season, before it quietly changes again. This is the beauty of capturing six-month milestone photos: preserving a moment that may feel small now, but will one day mean everything. One day, this stage won’t feel like a moment. It will feel like a memory you’ll be so grateful you held onto.
